St Mark’s at Rakaia

35 Elizabeth Avenue
Rakaia

Worship services are held on the first Sunday of the month at 9am, including breakfast.

St. Mark’s Rakaia was the first church to be built in Rakaia. Designed by Benjamin Mountfort, it was opened in 1877. This Gothic style church is a simple rectangular structure, with a square ended chancel, and is typical of Mountfort's simple timber churches for small parishes. The church was pivotal in the development of the Rakaia district, after the railway reached Rakaia in 1874.
